At the western edge of Tanzania’s Serengeti lies one of the most ambitious conservation initiatives in Africa, Grumeti Reserves. Encompassing more than 350,000 acres of protected wilderness, this private reserve forms a critical part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem and stands as a benchmark for how conservation, community upliftment, and eco tourism can work together to restore, protect, and sustain Africa’s most iconic landscapes.

Grumeti Reserves was established to reverse decades of poaching and habitat loss. In the years since, it has transformed degraded land into thriving wilderness, re-established natural migratory corridors, and played a pivotal role in reviving local wildlife population, from elephant and lion to rhino and wildebeest. Working in close partnership with the Grumeti Fund, the reserve also delivers meaningful socio-economic change to the region. With outreach programmes reaching 26 neighbouring villages, Grumeti’s impact extends far beyond its boundaries.
